West Camden Bypass

Camden Area Projects Overall Display West

The West Camden Bypass project consists of constructing a a new roadway, to the west of US13.  The roadway will begin on Willow Grove Road (SR10), just east of the railroad tracks, and continue east to US13.  Connections will be made at South Street, Upper King Road/S. Main Street and King Boulevard with roundabouts.  The tie in at US13 will utilize the existing Wawa entrance road and will connect to the East Camden Bypass.  The roadway is designed for all users and includes bike lanes and a shared-use path within the project limits.  DART Bus stops are also incorporated into the project to accommodate transit users.

Proposed Improvements

  • Proposed roadway will consist of 11’ travel lanes with 10’ shoulder/bike lanes in each direction.
  • Three roundabouts are proposed at the connections to South Street, Upper King Road/S. Main Street, and King Boulevard.
  • The intersection with Upper King Road and Voshell Mill Road will be modified to a right-in, right-out only.  All left turns will be eliminated from this intersection.  These movements will now be made at the roundabout.
  • Bicycles and pedestrians will benefit from a shared-use path.  This path will be constructed along the north side of the new roadway starting at South Street and continuing to the intersection of US13.  An additional shared-use path on the south side of the roadway will be constructed between Upper King Road and US13.  Path will be tied into new and existing sidewalks along all intersecting roadways.
  • Pedestrian facilities will be provided at each intersection and roundabout within the project limits.
  • DART Bus stop will be constructed on South Street near the tie-in with the proposed roadway.
  • Roadway lighting will be provided at all intersections and roundabouts within the project limits.
  • The project utilizes both open and closed drainage systems that will tie into four new stormwater management facilities and the extension of an existing stormwater management facility within the project limits.

East Camden Bypass

Camden Area Projects Overall Display East

The East Camden Bypass project consists of constructing a new roadway, to the east of US13.  The new roadway will begin at the intersection of US13 and Old North Road, then head south through the intersection of SR10 and Rising Sun Road and will tie back into US13 at the entrance road to Wawa. A 5-leg roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of SR10 and Rising Sun Road to provide full access in all directions.  The roadway is designed for all users and includes shared-use paths and bike lanes within the project limits.  Crosswalks will be provided at all intersections with pedestrian signals being added to the crossings at US13.  DART Bus stops are also incorporated into the project to accommodate transit users.

Proposed Improvements

  • The proposed roadway will consist of 11’ travel lanes with 10’ shoulder/bike lanes in each direction.  A raised median will be constructed at the three intersections with US13 to provide better separation of opposing traffic.
  • A roundabout is proposed at the intersection with the new roadway, SR10 and Rising Sun Road.
  • Pedestrian and bicycle facilities will be provided via a 10’ wide shared-use path throughout the project limits with crosswalks at all intersections. A 5’ wide sidewalk will be constructed along the west side of Rising Sun Road. These facilities will tie into the recently constructed Capital City Trail which extends east along the south side of SR10/E. Lebanon Road.
  • The project utilizes both open and closed drainage systems that will tie into two stormwater management ponds located at the intersection of US13 and SR10.
  • Two bus stops will be constructed along the northbound side of US13.
  • Roadway lighting will be provided at all intersections, including the roundabout, within the project limits.
  • Three existing traffic signals along US13 will be upgraded to provide pedestrian crosswalks and signals.
